For the next titles, Ryu's fighting style was modified, so he had different skills with Evil Ryu and Kage possessing more diverse moves. However, because of issues in the making of Street Fighter II he possessed a major weakness within the cast. For his second appearance, Ryu's design changed from that of a young fighter to a skilled Karate practitioner. Nishiyama's inspiration was the martial artist Mas Oyama.

"Ryu with the surge of murderous intent awakened", abbreviated Satsui Ryu in Street Fighter Alpha 3), and Kage-naru mono ( 影ナル者, lit. Ryu is more emotive than he is in my head. He was very scary looking and he seemed to fling and control Ryu's bag with his mind, which makes sense when you think about his moves in the game. A wandering hobo trying to find the path of a true marital artist, all that matters to him is the way of the fist. I think it would be really cool to live a life like him. This chapter was Oro catching Ryu taking a nap overlooking the city. I've always loved how martial artists in stories go from one teacher to another. I always knew Oro used one arm, it's cool that he does it to make things more fair. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.
